What You May See

You may see the smile on my face.

What you can’t see are my nails digging into my palm to keep it there.

You may see me going about life.

You can’t see the nightmare replaying itself in my head.

You may call me strong.

I am anything but.

You may think of her occasionally.

I can’t stop thinking of her.

For you see, I am empty on the inside.

Nobody can see the loneliness or the pain.

I go about my day, but I am not really here.

I yearn for the day that my heart will be whole again.

Because there is a part of it in Heaven waiting for me.

I hate this part of life. To love is to be vulnerable.
